How To Burn The Perfect Candle

How To Burn The Perfect Candle

Sunday 8th November 2020

This is an art and you want to get it right! To get the most from your lovely scented soy candle every single time, just follow these simple tips!

The first burn
It's really important that the first time you burn your candle, you let the wax melt right to the edge of the vessel. To do this, make sure you burn your candle for a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 4 hours. It's important to get this first burn right because the wax pool you get for the first burn will be the wax pool you get every time you burn your candle. If you leave the candle alight for a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 4, you will get a larger wax pool which will mean you get the best fragrance from your scented candle and one that will linger for longer.

It's quite nice to think about wax having a memory, so if your candle doesn't burn to the edges then on the next burn, it will begin to tunnel and won't burn evenly and no one wants that! Don't forget the wax, cos the wax won't forget!

Trimming your wick
After the first burn, make sure you trim your wick to about 5 mm. This is so the wick doesn't get stuck in the wax, which can affect its burning and any debris left in the candle means the flame could flicker too high and blacken the glass.

You should burn your candle for no longer than 4 hours at a time, to make sure it stays in its best form. If you do burn longer than 4 hours at a time it can create carbon deposits (mushroom shape) on the wick which may cause smoking.
If you want to get the most from your candle, then it might be good to leave it 24 hours before lighting the candle again as it will prolong the fragrance from the candle.

Safety first
Because we want you to enjoy your candle and avoid accidents, then make sure you light your candle away from drafts and leave on a heat safe surface. Keep your lit candle away from children and pets and once it's lit, best not to move it!

Keep it clean
Dust does seem to just appear from anywhere and it likes to settle on the top of our candles, so we suggest using nylon tights to gently remove the dust. Or better still in between burns place a lid over to protect the wax.
